THE WESTON PLAYHOUSE THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUNCES 2008 STAGE DOOR SERIES

(Weston, VT) -- Enter the world of live theatre this winter and spring with Weston Playhouse Theatre Company’s 2008 Stage Door Series. Get behind the scenes and explore the theatre’s upcoming season with free community play readings and discussions, film screenings, performances, and more, sponsored in part by local libraries, bookstores, The Vermont Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts.

The series begins Sunday, February 10 at 4pm at the Landgrove Inn’s InView Center for the Arts with a free community play reading and discussion of John Patrick Shanley’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, Doubt. Set in a Catholic school in 1964, the play pits a determined nun against a young priest in a battle of wills and beliefs. You bring the talent, WPTC brings the scripts! The reading is followed by an optional wine, dinner and discussion at the Landgrove Inn for $28. Call 802.824.6673 for dinner reservations.

On Friday, February 29 at 7pm, come to the Village Green Gallery in Weston, VT for “A Night in the Piazza,” featuring wine and Italian hors-d’oeuvres and a screening of the rare 1962 film version of The Light in the Piazza, starring Olivia de Havilland and George Hamilton. Suggested donation is $10. Seating is limited, call 802.824.3669 to reserve.

Join WPTC at Chester’s Misty Valley Books on Sunday, March 9 at 3pm for a free community play reading and discussion of No Child…, Nilaja Sun’s hilarious and provocative one-woman show about inner city schools, making its Vermont debut on Weston’s Other Stage.

On Sunday, April 6 at 3pm, enjoy French snacks and get behind the story of the timeless Broadway hit, Les Misèrables, with a free lecture and discussion at Ludlow’s Fletcher Memorial Library.

On Saturday, April 26 at 7pm, come celebrate Shakespeare’s 445th Birthday at the Spiral Press Café in Manchester with food, drink, revelry, and a raucous free community play reading of As You Like It, the Bard’s classic comedy of love and laughter.

Bring the kids to the Weston Playhouse on Sunday, May 18 at 2pm for a free Family FunDay on the Farm, featuring petting animals, performances by local Early Stages students, and more, in celebration of the WPTC Young Audience’s performance of Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type.

And, new this year, WPTC introduces PlayGroups! Are you a member of a book club? Why not add a play to your reading list? Choose from one of WPTC’s upcoming season productions and read and discuss the script or novel from which the play is adapted. WPTC provides a reading list, discussion guide, and a group discount exclusively for PlayGroup members. Contact WPTC for more information.
