This week we welcome the creators of this year’s New Musical Award winner- Saint Ex. The two writers, musical director and five intrepid actors arrived in Weston last night in the midst of the season’s most intense snowstorm. Keep an eye on this blog post for some further thoughts from the Saint Ex company. Read more about this exciting new musical in our recent press release.

So happy to be visiting Weston for the first time, and working on this show for the second time! I haven’t seen the show since the Sundance Lab in 11/08, and it’s grown so much since then.
The relationship between Saint-Ex and his wife is better drawn and is now more fascinating and moving than ever. It’s simultaneously puzzling and crystal clear. Kudos to Sean & Jenny for this accomplishment.
This week’s work has brought forward the thread of the story that concerns Saint-Ex the Writer. Why did he need to write? How did his writing fit into his life? What effects did his writings have on his relationships and his quest for personal fulfillment? There’s already a lot about this in the script, and I have a feeling Sean will be teasing out more as he continues to polish and refine.
Looking forward to tomorrow night’s presentation. This weather might intimidate a New Yorker, but I have a feeling the people of Weston won’t be daunted! It’s been a wonderful couple of days, enjoying this whopper of a storm, our very comfortable accommodations, and the company of our talented cast and generous hosts.
It is such a profound gift to come here and have this intense, devoted time to rehearse for a recording. It has been my experience that these things are usually thrown together through the generosity and good will of one’s actor friends. It gets tiring trying to scrape together the resources to make an adequate demo. It’s such a unique award. And now that we’ve been given the opportunity, I realize, for us, it is essential to getting our little show to the next development opportunity.
That we also get to come to this beautiful place and get to know this wonderful theater company is a gift on top of a gift! We felt like family as soon as we arrived – after 7 hours in the car in white out conditions, Steve welcomed us into his home for an impromptu meal. We had a roaring fire, lovely cocktails, easy conversation and hugs from Lucy the dog. It was as if we were all, suddenly, close friends. And we are.
I know that the Weston Playhouse will continue make ever more significant contributions to new work in the future. And I’m glad to be along, in some small way, for the ride.
Thank you to Steve for believing in us and our project. It means more than I could ever say.
