Lois Brown and Jim Wallis
By Anne Wingate
 |
The
Weston Playhouse Theatre Company can always count
on Lois Brown and Jim Wallis for help: from
ushering to working in the office, from transporting
actors and guest lecturers to providing food for
technical rehearsals, from entertaining the Young
Company to helping actors learn their lines or understand
the historical events portrayed in a play. As if
this weren’t enough, Lois and Jim have become
members of the theatre’s Producers Circle,
sponsoring a production each season.
After creating a second home in Ludlow in the 1980’s,
Lois and Jim arrived to stay in 2001 and immediately
began looking for ways to help out their favorite
theatre. |
In addition to their theatre volunteer work, Jim continues
to teach a graduate-level course on hydrology and water
resources at Yale and Lois volunteers through Good Beginnings
to help mothers adjust to having a new baby at home.
Their two black labs are “therapy dogs”
visiting the elderly and ill.
Helping the cast of Copenhagen was a special experience
for Jim because his memories of WWII are very vivid.
He was bombed out of his London home and spent four
years in the countryside trying to finish his secondary
education. He eventually earned a degree in forestry,
and has been in the environmental field ever since. Lois
grew up in New York City and worked in several finance
positions before becoming a financial planner for
Mobil. Later, she ran her own firm, helping companies
with investor relations.
Coming from the New York metropolitan area, they are
thrilled that living in Southern Vermont means
that seeing quality theatre is just a short, beautiful
ride away. Getting to know the Young Company means they
especially love every Cabaret. They revel in the whole
experience of the WPTC and have found volunteering the
very best way to find people who share their interest
in great theatre.
