Nominated by The Sundance Institute Theatre Program and commissioned by Playwrights Horizons, Kirsten Childs’ BELLA: AN AMERICAN TALL TALE was the winner of this year’s New Musical Award! Her story follows Isabella “Bella” Patterson as she travels across the country to reunite with her Buffalo Soldier sweetheart, encountering a cadre of colorful and lively characters along the way.

The New York Times Ben Brantley says Childs “possesses an enthusiastic, generous spirit and playful wit naturally suited to musicals” while nominator Janice Paran calls her “an under-appreciated gem of American musical theatre.” Paran celebrates BELLA’s “heart and hope and pizzazz.” We do, too!

Thanks so all who came, and all who played. Kirsten and the cast followed this performance with a sweet little house concert in NYC. Then Steve whisked them off to Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records where they recorded a professional demo with Kurt Deutsch. We hope the world is ready for “Bella,” because she is — without a doubt — ready for the world!
