The secret of success is making your vocation your vacation. – Mark Twain

Piper Goodeve - Weston (2)Summer is for fun, freedom and time with friends. I get it. I so do. However, summer is our busiest time of year at the Weston Playhouse. For me, being a part of the Weston family is what summer is all about, having been an intern at 18, then in the Young Company, an Equity actress, and now on the staff. It’s truly a magical place to spend the summer. We have 3 great ways for students who are passionate about theatre to be a part of that magic, all while having fun, learning new skills, and meeting new friends. Take a look at the programs below. Maybe one (or two or three!) is right for you!

Broadway Theatre Camp

Ages: 9th grade through exiting 12th
Dates: August 1st to August 19th, Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm
Location: Burr & Burton Academy and Weston Playhouse
Registration deadline: June 15th
Fee: $800

For three weeks, students take their singing, dancing and acting skills to the next level, training with Broadway and Regional theatre professionals. Master classes and workshops supplement core acting, music and dance classes each week. Students will work on songs and monologues from Broadway shows as well as numbers from Mamma Mia! with members of the creative team from our MainStage production. Students will learn the same choreography and songs as the professionals! All campers will leave the 3 weeks with a song and a monologue picked just for them that they can use for school, community, or college auditions going forward. Camp ends with a finale performance for friends and family on August 19th on the Weston Playhouse MainStage. Campers and guests then attend the 7:30 performance of Mamma Mia!. (Please see BTC webpage for ticket info.) Broadway Theatre Camp is an unparalleled opportunity for area high school students seeking to sharpen their skills and train with some of Broadway’s best! Some of you may remember or have been a part of our Student Ambassador program. This year, Student Ambassadors gets a makeover with more workshops, backstage tours, talks with department heads, a new name, and so much more! TheatreLab is a great way for students who love different aspects of theatre, or just theatre in general, to explore the range of skills and roles necessary to make professional theatre happen. Many of us are familiar with acting; it’s the most visible aspect of theatre for sure. But what about props? The box office? Company Management? Stage Management? Lighting design, sound design, wardrobe, house managing, I could go on and on. There are so many people in a variety of positions who work together to produce the 2 hours you see on stage during the show. Students will leave their summer in TheatreLab with insider knowledge of the professional theatre, and maybe even discover a new passion or dream job. Come explore and experiment with TheatreLab! Junior Ushers

Ages: 16 to 21
Dates: On going, flexible
Location: Weston Playhouse
Registration deadline: until spots fill up!
Fee: None

This is a great opportunity for young theatre lovers who are curious about what happens before the house lights dim and who would like to see as many shows as possible this summer. There’s a whole team of people who make the theatre safe and run smoothly before the down beat. Without them, the show wouldn’t start on time, no one would know where their seats were, and the actors would perform with the house lights on. By volunteering your time as a Junior Usher, you get to see the show free of charge. This is the perfect way to learn new skills and see a professional production. Proof of community service is also available. Please contact Kristine at for more info or to book your Junior Usher date. Spots fill up fast!

“The moment I set foot in the Weston Playhouse, I knew that it was a special place. The shows that I have seen and been a part of there have changed the way in which I look at theatre and have kindled my ever-growing passion for it. Although all of us in the program come from different backgrounds, cultures, religions, you name it, this program connects all of us in our love of theatre, and creates friendships that will last a lifetime.”
