The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company offers entry level positions to qualified candidates for a summer season. Production department and administrative interns work side-by-side with Playhouse production staff and top New York and regional directors and designers. Informal discussions are scheduled weekly with a variety of Playhouse artists, providing hands-on knowledge and experience. Interns receive a weekly stipend of $150 and housing is provided.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have completed at least two years of study in a qualified college theatre program or the equivalent with emphasis in their particular area of interest. All candidates must display maturity and aptitude in theatre production and be willing to work long hours doing a variety of production-related tasks. These positions are physically demanding and often require working long days doing repetitive tasks. Depending on the position, applicants must be able to lift up to 50 lbs safely with assistance. Comfort working at heights (on ladders, in grid, often in tight awkward spaces) is required for some positions.
Interns in specific departments should have basic skills and prior experience at the college level, or the equivalent, in those areas (e.g. carpentry, sewing, lighting, stage management). All interns will also participate in company/campus-wide projects on a regular basis, which may include helping company management with driving, event setup, cleaning the theatre, etc.
Throughout the summer, interns are given the opportunity to meet with one or more of our guest artists. Directors, designers, musicians, administrative staff, and stage managers will share stories about their careers, experiences with Weston, and suggestions for up-and-coming future professionals.
Weston is in a beautiful, rural area with limited cell phone reception. All work areas have wireless internet access and landline phones. We also highly recommend having one's own car in this area. Interns are not required to have a car but are responsible for getting to and from work and show calls and coordinating rides as needed.
The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company is an equal opportunity employer that does not discriminate in its hiring practices and, in order to build the strongest possible workforce, actively seeks a diverse applicant pool.
